Transforming the Culture of Math
Offered as a series of five intensive, hands-on workshops designed to expand teachers’ understanding of the Common Core State Standards, both content and mathematical practices. In order to be future-ready, students must have a conceptual understanding of math, and be able to explain their thinking orally, with models, through drawings, and in writing. Simply getting the right answer is not enough! Students need to find and justify multiple solutions, using a variety of problem-solving strategies.
Adding Inquiry to the Workshop Model
I'm a huge proponent of the Teachers College Reading and Writing Workshop, but I also advocate for inquiry-based units and student agency. Can we have both? YES, we can! Over the course of a year, I can meet with teams to align Literacy units with Social Studies and Science areas of inquiry, including authentic assessments and celebrations of learning. Teams should include not only grade level teachers, but also specialist teachers and subject experts, so that we have interdisciplinary performances of learning.
Student-Directed Learning
Through a series of workshops and in-class coaching, let's explore the many ways that students can take ownership of their learning. There's Genius Hour, the LAUNCH cycle, TED Ed Club - just to name a few! We will also explore how to bring student voice to your professional development - through student panels, documentaries, and Twitter chats.
Integrating SEL authentically
As co-creator of The Global KIND Project, I experienced the power of merging literacy and Social Emotional Learning. Using research-based strategies, I will work with teams to design and implement SEL strategies into current units of study.
iLearning Workflows
This 5-part, hands-on workshop series will help teachers shift their focus from apps and devices to authentic ways of creating and sharing content, using 5 essential workflows. With guided practice and in-class support, teachers of all grade levels and content areas can integrate cutting-edge technology seamlessly and effectively with these iLearning workflows: Showcase Learning; Create/Revise/Publish; Tutorial Design; App Smashing; and Broadcast/Podcast.
Making Thinking Visible Routines
MTV routines support students in thinking at a deeper level, and build a culture of thinking within the classroom and school, by encouraging all voices and perspectives to be heard and understood. In Part 1 of this workshop, participants will learn the value and purpose of integrating Making Thinking Visible routines into any classroom, regardless of grade level or content area. We will engage in routines and try them out, using both paper and digital tools. In Part 2, teachers will bring student evidence, and we will explore how to analyze these artifacts to stimulate deeper thinking and learning.
Personalized Professional Learning
This series of workshops involves the entire school community, and will inspire educators, leadership, and families to ask questions and seek solutions. Using the principles of design thinking, we embark on the PASSION cycle - a framework to empower educators and learners to create meaningful change in classrooms, in the entire school, and to impact the future of education.
Presentations
Inspiring and engaging presentations and keynotes will provide teachers with practical examples, relevant resources, and time for thoughtful reflection.
An experienced presenter and keynote speaker at international conferences, such as ISTE, Building Learning Communities, and Teachers of Young Children, I focus on a wide range of topics. Currently, I'm most interested in personalized learning, for students and teachers, technology empowerment, and visible thinking and learning.
